About Dr. Alburquerque
Dr. Rachel Alburquerque is an ophthalmologist in Santo Domingo, fellowship-trained in glaucoma, dedicated to treating and preventing the disease and to clinical research on drainage devices.
A Doctor of Medicine Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), Dr. Alburquerque completed her ophthalmology residency at Hospital Dr. Elías Santana and her glaucoma fellowship at the same institution, with a rotation in the Glaucoma Department at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
She has been part of the Glaucoma and Clinical Research Department at Centro Láser since 2004 and serves as Vice President of the Dominican Glaucoma Society. She previously served as Deputy Director of the National Commission for the Prevention of Blindness.
A researcher with publications indexed in international journals (Journal of Glaucoma, ARVO) on minimally invasive drainage devices such as the PRESERFLO MicroShunt, alongside the Centro Láser glaucoma team.
