Centro Láser is the first dedicated eye care center in the Dominican Republic. What began in 1947 is today home to more than 20 subspecialists, two locations, and a legacy that has shaped much of Dominican ophthalmology.

Our story
From the country's first eye care center to today's cutting edge
Centro Láser was founded in the middle of the last century by Dr. Oscar R. Batlle Morel, one of the first Dominican ophthalmologists, trained at Columbia University alongside Dr. Ramón Castroviejo. In 1947 he opened the first dedicated eye care center in the Dominican Republic.
That first practice grew into a legacy spanning three generations of the Batlle family. Centro Láser helped launch the residency program at Hospital Dr. Elías Santana, which has trained more than 200 ophthalmologists now practicing in the country and in 28 nations across five continents. In 2001 it opened its current building, and today it runs two locations in Santo Domingo.
