About Dr. Alfaro
Dr. Alex Alfaro is an ophthalmologist in Santo Domingo, fellowship-trained in retina and vitreous, focused on the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases.
He earned his medical degree from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and completed his ophthalmology residency at Hospital Dr. Elías Santana, where he later completed his fellowship in retina and vitreous.
Clinical research has been a hallmark of his career. He has taken part as a study physician in clinical trials for international companies (Johnson & Johnson, Santen, Ivantis, Ocular Therapeutix, LensGen, among others) and has researched treatments for diabetic macular edema, endophthalmitis, and vitreoretinal surgery.
Since 2025, he has served as assistant professor in the Retina Department at Hospital Dr. Elías Santana, combining clinical practice with training new specialists. He has been part of the Centro Láser medical staff since 2023.
