Dr. Juan Ubiera is an ophthalmologist in Santo Domingo, fellowship-trained in retina and vitreous, with a special focus on diagnosing and treating retinopathy of prematurity.
Dr. Ubiera earned his Doctor of Medicine Cum Laude from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), completed his ophthalmology residency at Hospital Dr. Elías Santana, and did his fellowship in retina and vitreous at Fundación Oftalmológica Nacional in Bogotá, Colombia.
He served as Chief of the Retina and Vitreous Department at Hospital Dr. Elías Santana (1999–2010) and is Founding President of the Dominican Retina and Vitreous Association (ADOREVIT), as well as founder of the Dominican Retinopathy of Prematurity Committee, an area to which he has devoted much of his career.
A member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), and the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology, with ongoing training at international conferences on retina and retinopathy of prematurity.
